The German actress Brigitte Helm (17 March 1908 - 11 June 1996) had an extensive film career, commencing with her starring role in Fritz Lang's Metropolis, filmed during 1925-6 and released in January 1927. She was a busy actress in Germany, France and Italy up until her final film An Ideal Husband in 1935.

1926 Berlin Censor's Office - Intertitle Cards Introduction An important resource in the study of Fritz Lang's Metropolis and efforts to reconstruct the film as originally released, is the 1926 Berlin Censor's Office intertitle card listing. This document was based on the version of Metropolis submitted to that office during November of 1926 by director Lang and UFA. A detailed transcription of the original German language document is included in the table below, along with an approximate English translation (the original text is in bold). This November 1926 version of Metropolis may hereinafter be referred to as 'the director's cut', though Fritz Lang was known to work on his films right up to the time of their premiere, cutting and re-editing the various reels and altering intertitles.
