Metropolis Polish Novel, 1927

The dustjacket for the original Polish release of Thea von Harbou's novelisation of Metropolis was designed by the noted graphic artist Stefan Norblin (1892-1952). His use of solid blocks of neon colours was typical and innovative.

1926 Berlin Censor's Office - Intertitle Cards Introduction An important resource in the study of Fritz Lang's Metropolis and efforts to reconstruct the film as originally released, is the 1926 Berlin Censor's Office intertitle card listing. This document was based on the version of Metropolis submitted to that office during November of 1926 by director Lang and UFA. A detailed transcription of the original German language document is included in the table below, along with an approximate English translation (the original text is in bold). This November 1926 version of Metropolis may hereinafter be referred to as 'the director's cut', though Fritz Lang was known to work on his films right up to the time of their premiere, cutting and re-editing the various reels and altering intertitles.
